WS at Dismissal Time Today

Today, just after noon, our boiler overheated and filled the boiler room with steam, which set off the fire alarm.  BJ, Carrie, and I looked at each other with great surprise, as none of us set off the alarm for a drill.  Oh boy, the real deal!  All those years of training kicked in for every child, teacher, and support staff!  You would have been proud to see our school evacuate in less than two minutes.  It was very cold outside and few of us had coats, hats, or mittens, (except for the kids already outside for recess), but we heard not a word.  Attendance was taken, the students were in straight, quiet lines, away from the school building.  Parents had started to come in the driveway as it was dismissal.  BJ rerouted traffic and the buses and the fire trucks were here within minutes.  When we were given the all clear, the students came back into the building, (shortly before 12:30 pm).  All is well and we are having the boiler repaired as I write this.  There will be school tomorrow.

A HUGE thank you to the Chief of Police, Bill Daniels, Fire Chief Darrin Spaulding, and the men and women in the fire trucks who were on the scene in no time flat.  Our students were so impressed and we were all so inspired!

Thank you to the parents who were a little scared as they watched this unfold, but took direction well and KNEW their babies were in safe hands.

Thank you to the students and staff who showed me that they knew exactly what to do in an emergency.  I wiped tears away, I was so darn proud of them!

Please call the school if you have questions.  674-5400

Sincerely,
JeanMarie
